Over 370 Thousand London Jobs In Next Five Years

Well over 370 thousand new London jobs could be created over the course of the next five years according to a recent City of London Corporation report.

If the report’s forecasts prove accurate, then around a quarter of all new jobs created in the United Kingdom will be for vacancies in London. Over the past 12 months, the number of people finding new jobs in London has outpaced the rest of the UK by almost double.

As always, the financial and professional services sector will be a major player in the creation of new jobs in the nation’s capital, but the report’s analysts also expect strong gains in the number of catering and hospitality jobs in London over the next five years.

City of London’s policy chairman, Mark Boleat, offered his opinions as to why the capital is so unique in for the United Kingdom, particularly in the finance sector:

“London’s position as a world leading financial centre is crucial to driving jobs and growth across the UK. Although parts of the City are downscaling, other parts including professional services are expanding rapidly. This growth will help to fuel the future success of London and the rest of the UK, which employs more than two-thirds of the financial and related professional services sector.”

One of the report’s authors, Dmitriy Gruzinov, said 2013 could be ‘sluggish’ but that a real bounce back is predicted for next year for the financial services industry.
