Capgemini, the IT services and business consultants, have announced they will be creating 500 new Scottish jobs in the next four years.

The firm is moving to new offices in Inverness and expects to hire around 200 new staff in Scotland in 2013. The balance of 300 further Scottish jobs will be added over the course of the next three years. Around the world, Capgemini currently employs over 120 thousand people in full and part time jobs and wants to double its headcount in Scotland in the coming years.

Welcoming the new Scottish jobs, Alex Salmond, first minister for Scotland, said: “Capgemini's announcement that they are creating 500 new jobs in Inverness and thus doubling their workforce here in the Highlands is fantastic news. Even in the increasingly vibrant city of Inverness, the economic impact of this employment boost cannot be over-estimated.”

The government in Scotland is providing some of the funding for the new job creation at Inverness under the guise of Scottish Development International (SDI), which also includes Scottish Enterprise and the Highlands & Islands Enterprise. In total, the SDI has put up over £4 million to back the new jobs at Capgemini in Scotland.

Drew Hendry, Leader of Highland Council, said the council was looking forward to lending a helping hand to Capgemini during their recruitment drive and said that they wanted to get young people in particular into the new Inverness jobs.
