Scotland Jobs Growing Quicker Than UK Average

29 Jan 2013

Scotland Jobs Growing Quicker Than UK Average Scotland is currently creating new permanent and temporary jobs at a quicker pace than the average for the United Kingdom, according to new research by the Bank of Scotland.

The Bank’s survey of recruitment agencies revealed client demand was strong in the country, leading to the best performance on jobs in Scotland for close to two years.

Unemployment in Scotland is now down to 7.6 per cent, compared to 7.8 per cent for the UK as a whole.

The research suggested solid growth across the board, with more jobs on both a permanent and temporary basis. Wages for permanent staff in Scotland were at the highest for over 6 months by the end of 2012, and the average wage for a temporary worker in the country is now growing quicker than at any time in almost five years.

Broken down by sector, the jobs figures for Scotland show that the health industry is particularly buoyant north of the border.

Chief economist of the Bank of Scotland, Donald MacRae, was upbeat about the latest jobs figures for Scotland: “These results suggest the Scottish economy has exited the recent period of slowdown and is entering 2013 in growth mode.”
