Pendle Council Initiative For Lancashire Graduate Jobs

10 Dec 2012

Pendle Council Initiative For Lancashire Graduate Jobs Pendle Council is pushing through a new initiative which will help Lancashire students find graduate jobs in the area.

The new graduate scheme is part of a wider initiative by the North West council which will see a total of almost £350,000 spent on trying to get people in the local area into work.

Graduates can expect a salary of £16,000 and will be placed into a variety of roles and sectors in Pendle. Placements for the graduates are expected to last at least six months but it is hoped that there will also be some 12 month opportunities available.

Pendle Council will use some of their grant funded investment money to help pay the graduates salaries and the local firms will make up the balance.

Concept4, a local marketing and design agency, has already signed up to the initiative and now Pendle Council is looking for more businesses in the area to come on board and offer jobs to graduates.

Councillor Paul White, who is in charge of Economic Development, Enterprise and Growth in Pendle, spoke of the advantages that graduates can bring to local businesses: “We’re already taking action. Graduates can bring great benefits to local companies with fresh ideas and expertise, but it can be hard for graduates to get their first job. By working together we can make a real difference to both businesses and job seekers.”

And Leader of the Council, Joe Cooney said that the initiative was important to prevent the drain of talented graduates leaving Pendle to find jobs in other parts of the UK.
