Sainsbury’s Till Up 5,000 Christmas Jobs For 2012

19 Nov 2012

Sainsbury’s Till Up 5,000 Christmas Jobs For 2012 Sainsbury’s, the massive supermarket retailer, has announced that it will be offering 5,000 new jobs over the busy Christmas and New Year holidays this year.

The new Christmas jobs at Sainsbury’s for the current year can’t match the 14,000 new jobs they announced in 2010, but it is still fantastic news for any student job hunters looking for holiday work in the coming break.

The vacancies will be advertised in the very near future and some of the new Sainsbury’s jobs will start in the next couple of weeks.

Gwyn Burr, a Customer Service and Colleague Director at Sainsbury’s described the sort of work that could be on offer at their supermarkets over the Christmas period and highlighted how these temporary positions can turn into something more long term.

“Seasonal colleagues carry out a number of key roles including customer service, working on check-outs, helping keep shelves full and assisting the online delivery teams as they prepare Christmas shopping orders. This is great experience to help people develop their career, many of our colleagues who started with us at Christmas are now in charge of large teams and budgets, helping to drive sales and deliver great service,” said Mr Burr.

It is expected that around 2,000 of the new jobs will turn into permanent jobs over the coming months as Sainsbury’s looks to expand and open new supermarkets and stores. In total the business will have created around 15,000 new full and part time jobs at more than 1,000 stores this year, taking the number of its employees to over 150 thousand.
