Co-operative To Generate 3,000 New Legal Jobs

25 May 2012

Co-operative To Generate 3,000 New Legal Jobs Co-operative Legal Services are set to expand over the next five years and will generate up to 3,000 new legal jobs around the UK.

The firm will open a total of six new offices including a new base in London. The Co-operative Group say that they are keen to offer as many legal jobs as possible to young people so they will provide options for study leave with some of the new positions.

At the moment, Co-operative Legal Services employs fewer than 500 staff so the new services and jobs they will offer over the next five years mark a significant expansion to the firm’s operations as they challenge to become the biggest provider of consumer law services in the UK.

Giving further details of the new legal positions at the Co-operative Group, chief executive, Peter Marks, said: “It is envisaged that about 90% of the roles being created will be actual legal functions, with 10% made up of support staff. We are particularly keen to use our expansion as a way to offer opportunities to young people. Legal apprenticeships and opportunities for study leave will form an important part of this major employment opportunity.”

Mr Marks added that Co-operative Legal Services hoped to make legal services much more accessible and understandable to customers so that they are more comfortable and confident in seeking consumer law solutions.
