03 May 2012

City Year London recruiting volunteer tutors and mentors in London If you’re interested in personal development and looking to make a difference at inner city schools across London, then the positions available at City Year London could be your next calling.

E4S are glad to announce that we have teamed up with City Year London to make young jobseekers in search of highly rewarding volunteer work aware of the tutor, mentor and role model opportunities available.

City Year was originally founded in 1988 in the United States but has grown to over 20 locations. It was launched in the capital by the Mayor of London in September 2010 after a very successful pilot at 5 primary schools in Islington, Hackney and Tower Hamlets.

Prospective candidates have to be aged between 18 and 25 and have the passion and dedication for transforming children’s lives for the better. This can include high quality graduates, post A-level students and also those young people who decided not to choose an academic path.

Responsibilities include:

- Becoming a role model

- Providing one to one mentoring and tutoring support

- Assisting teachers in the classroom

- Leading after school activities

- Running social issue workshops

- Organising and leading community action workshops

As you can see, the day to day activities you would be involved in working at City Year London are extremely varied and challenging, but at the same time rewarding in seeing the difference you and the rest of the team can make to children’s lives.
