Silentnight Lays Down 140 Jobs In Lancashire

20 Mar 2012

Silentnight Lays Down 140 Jobs In Lancashire Silentnight Beds, the largest manufacturer of branded beds for homes in the United Kingdom, is set to create 140 new full or part time Lancashire jobs at its Barnoldswick factory.

The company already makes around half a million beds a year, but production at the Barnoldswick factory will be increased and new products will be added to their range of beds, mattresses and headboards.

Around three hundred existing jobs will also be secured following a £1 million investment injection from Lancashire County Council.

Speaking about the new jobs at the Lancashire factory and the further jobs that will be saved, chairman of Silentnight Group Limited, Adrian Fawcett, said: “I am extremely grateful for the support offered to Silentnight by Lancashire County Council, which has helped us invest in new roles and secure what will be approaching 500 manufacturing-related jobs here in Barnoldswick.”

Leader of Lancashire County Council, Geoff Driver, said the announcement was great news for people in the area, and for the Lancashire economy as a whole.

The Silentnight website boasts that it would take a duvet twice the size of London to cover over the beds it has sold in the last half decade. Laid end to end, you could walk all the way to Rome and back on that number of beds!
