Up to 1,500 full or part time Bedfordshire jobs look set to be created with the opening of a new Center Parcs holiday village complex in Woburn Forest.

After a few set backs and hurdles due to planning permission hitches and the economic recession, it looks like the new Center Parcs could be finished in the first half of 2014, leading to one and a half thousand new jobs in Bedfordshire.

Around 1,200 jobs will be created in the construction phase of the Woburn Forest development and more new Bedfordshire jobs will open up with the launch of the new holiday park in 2014.

The new Woburn Forest Center Parcs will cost £250 million to establish and will become the holiday company’s fifth venture in the United Kingdom. To secure the investment needed for the project, Center Parcs got the backing of banks including RBS and HSBC.

Chief executive of Center Parcs, Martin Dalby, described the long road that will lead to their new holiday park and 1,500 full or part time Bedfordshire jobs: “It has been a long process, but this is an amazing outcome for us when you consider what's been happening in the world – the banks have been brilliantly supportive.”

Last year saw over one and a half million visitors make a holiday at one of the four current Center Parcs in the UK. The company has over 20 more resorts in Europe and expects that the new park in Bedfordshire will generate an annual turnover of £60 to boost their sales by around 20 per cent.
