The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is offering volunteer wildlife internships at some of its nature reserves in Lancashire, Yorkshire & Staffordshire.
The charity is looking for students and young people with a keen interest in birds and wildlife to undertake internships at their nature reserves at Leighton Moss in Lancashire, Old Moor and Fairburn Ings in Yorkshire, and Coombes Valley in Staffordshire. Other qualities that the RSPB desire in their volunteer interns are good communication skills and a team-working mentality.
The RSPB are offering four residential internships that would be highly suitable to any students thinking about going into conservation as a future career. The interns will take up free accommodation at two of the four nature reserves during their time with RSPB and will meet and greet guests, help organise events, take visitors on guided walks and liaise with the local community and media.
Beki Williams, who has already carried out an internship with the RSPB, spoke of the benefits of the work experience placements: “I had an amazing year. I’ve done so many things I wouldn’t have imagined doing and met some super people. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to enthuse people about nature and see the enjoyment they get from it. It really is an experience I have gained a lot from. I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking about a career in conservation.”
Applications close for all four of the RSPB volunteer internships on January 13th and the placements are due to commence in March. Find out more about the internships on the RSPB website.
