Shopping Centre Development To Bring 500 Northumberland Jobs

27 Dec 2011

Shopping Centre Development To Bring 500 Northumberland Jobs The redevelopment of the Manor Walks Shopping Centre could create up to 500 new full or part time jobs in Northumberland according to the developers Hammerson.

The redevelopment in the Cramlington area of the county will cost in the region of £200 million and has now received approval from planners at Northumberland County Council.

Work will start at the shopping centre early in 2012 and, if all goes to plan, then the all-new and extended Manor Walks Shopping Centre could open at the beginning of 2013.

The redeveloped site will boast a cinema, new restaurants and an extension to the existing parking facilities at the Northumberland shopping centre. A spokesman for Hammerson said that some of the 500 jobs would be created in the construction phase of the works. Other permanent jobs will be advertised at the new cinema and restaurants as the redevelopment nears completion.

Alan Armstrong, a local councillor in Northumberland said of the Manor Walks redevelopment and the jobs it will create: “I think the cinema and restaurants will be really good for the town and will have knock-on benefits for the town as a whole.”
