New transport schemes in the Greater Bristol area could create as many as 60,000 new full or part time Gloucestershire jobs according to Local Enterprise Partnerships.
In total, five new transport schemes have been given approval by the Department for Transport and the new jobs will start to be created in the next two years.
Over £200 million investment has been provided by the government for the new transport schemes and the new jobs will be created all over the county. The most jobs will be created by the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone which will add up to 17,000 full or part time jobs to the area.
A further 13,000 Gloucestershire jobs will come in the Science Park enterprise areas, 11,000 in the Weston-super-Mare Gateway Enterprise Area, 10,000 in the South Bristol employment area and 9,000 at the Bath City Riverside Area.
Councillor Brian Allinson, who is chair of the West of England Partnership’s transport committee, said the new transport schemes and the thousands of new Gloucestershire jobs they will create is fantastic news for the county.
“Securing this significant investment in the West’s transport system is further recognition of the importance central government places on this region and the scheme will lead to more jobs being created and improved links made with communities in the north and east fringe when work starts on the scheme in two years’ time,” said Mr Allinson.
