Honda Motors To Create 500 New Jobs In Swindon

20 Dec 2011

Honda Motors To Create 500 New Jobs In Swindon 500 Swindon jobs are now set to be created as Honda Motors gets production of its 2012 Civic car underway.

Difficulties after the major floods in Thailand had put back the start of production of the new Honda model by around a month – but the company has now opened applications for the 500 new production line jobs.

Contracts won’t initially be on a permanent basis for the new Swindon recruits at Honda. We understand that a twelve month term will apply to all of the jobs but it is expected that production will increase over that period.

Mark Prisk, the Business, Innovation and Skills Minister said of the new Swindon jobs: “Today's announcement of the creation of 500 new jobs on the day that production started on the next generation of the Civic hatchback is a clear demonstration of Honda's continued commitment to the UK.”

“It is a huge vote of confidence in the skills of the Swindon workforce and the current strength of the automotive sector. The decision reinforces the message that the UK remains a great place to manufacture high quality products,” said Mr Prisk.

Prime Minister David Cameron also spoke with enthusiasm about the production of the new Honda Civic at Swindon, saying that it was a massive boost to the existing workforce at the plant, as well as an encouraging signal for the car industry sector in the UK as a whole.
