Santander, one of the biggest banks in the world, is to create 100 jobs in Merseyside as it looks to extend the call centre service it provides to small businesses. The company will also hire an extra 250 new business managers at various UK locations.

The new Merseyside jobs will be created at Santander’s commercial banking centre in Bootle but will offer financial products to businesses throughout the UK.

Around 2,000 members of staff are currently employed by Santander at their Bootle offices in Bridle Road. The new jobs will increase call centre roles at the company to around 400, around half of which will be working on the business banking side of the business.

Santander Business Banking’s managing director, Robin Foale, said that although personal banking customers were still highly valued, small businesses were essential for the economy in the United Kingdom. For that reason, Santander had to offer banking services and products to help them grow said Mr Foale.

“Our research shows businesses want to know they have someone at their bank who is contactable and dependable when they need them, which is why we are increasing the number of local business managers across the country,” said Mr Foale.
