lawyers "very happy"
23-May-2007

Lawyers "very happy" Students thinking about a career in the legal professional should be pleased to learn that according to new research, lawyers are the happiest workers in the UK.

They might traditionally have been viewed with suspicion and distrust - and they work some of the longest hours of any office-based job.

However, according to research by recruitment service Badenoch & Clark, two thirds of lawyers are "very happy" in their jobs.

Alison Burgin, head of legal recruitment at Badenoch & Clark, said firms should not take the figures for granted.

She told The Lawyer: "Attracting and retaining talent is one of the biggest challenges facing legal firms, particularly in a market where skills are in high demand.

"It's essential that employers in the sector understand what motivates and enthuses their workforce. Benefits, opportunities to work flexibly, management style and work environments will all have an impact."

The results suggest that perhaps money does go some way to buying you happiness - law is one of the best-paid professions in the UK.

Recent research by loan provider Picture Financial has revealed that one in four of the UK population rank money above sex, food, work and the weather on its Happiness Index.
