Part Time Job And Holiday Job News

Vion, the Dutch meat producer and processing company, will create up to 250 full and part time jobs in Scotland after receiving £2 million in funding from the Scottish Enterprise and Skills Development Scotland bodies.

In addition, a further 1,000 jobs in Scotland have been safeguarded by the company now that the funding has been secured.

The new Scottish jobs will be at Vion’s Broxburn facility in West Lothian where the company processes pork for the food industry.

Up to 100 of the jobs will be apprenticeships and the 250 new recruits will take the total headcount of Vion in the UK close to 3,000.

Alex Salmond, first minister for Scotland, was said that the safeguarding of 1,000 jobs in Scotland along with the creation of 250 new jobs was ‘fantastic’ news. He added that job creation by the private sector was crucial and had helped reduce unemployment by 23,000 in Scotland during May, June and July this year.

“Securing 1,250 jobs through the new Centre of Excellence at Halls in Broxburn is fantastic news. VION’s investment in their new training centre – supported by Training Plus funds of £1.495m from Scottish Enterprise and up to £500,000 from Skills Development Scotland – is a major vote of confidence in the Scottish workforce and Scotland’s economic future,” said Mr Salmond.
