1,200 Full Or Part Time Jobs At B&Q And Screwfix

21 Sep 2011

1,200 Full Or Part Time Jobs At B&Q And Screwfix There could be up to 1,200 full or part time jobs coming to B&Q and Screwfix stores near you as parent company Kingfisher looks to expand.

Over 200 jobs will be advertised at B&Q stores the UK and around 1,000 jobs will open up at new and existing Screwfix outlets.

The full and part time jobs at B&Q will be created at former Focus DIY branches that the Kingfisher group took over.

40 new Screwfix stores will be opened by the Kingfisher group before the end of January next year and they will be looking to recruit both store managers and general staff for the day to day running of the branches. The company has already added 13 new Screwfix stores to its UK portfolio so far this year but will look to treble that rate of growth in the next six months.

Much of the £130 million that Kingfisher will spend on the new outlets has been enabled by strong profits even as Group sales in the United Kingdom have fallen marginally. Sales on the continent have helped overall profits remain buoyant at the company and will help to fuel their expansion both in the UK and abroad.

Group Chief Executive of Kingfisher, Ian Cheshire, spoke recently of the new full and part time jobs which would be created and the economic backdrop they are set against: “We are backing Britain, investing to grow our B&Q and Screwfix businesses in the UK, creating jobs and supporting local communities. We have the balance sheet strength and financial flexibility to do this. Although the economic outlook is uncertain, this investment demonstrates our confidence in the UK's longer-term growth prospects.”
