Scottish Power To Add 1,500 Apprentice & Graduate Engineering Jobs

23 Aug 2011

Scottish Power To Add 1,500 Apprentice & Graduate Engineering Jobs Scottish Power, the energy company, could create up to one and a half thousand apprentice opportunities and graduate engineering jobs in Scotland over the next decade.

Over the next ten years, the company will invest £3 billion to improve its electricity network and ramp up its use of renewable energy. To enable them to move forward with their aims in an industry which is not well known for an abundance of youthful experts, they intend to enlist the help of apprentices and engineering graduates in Scotland.

Chief executive of Scottish Power, Frank Mitchell, said that huge investment was needed to make sure that the electricity network in Scotland would be sufficient for the 21st century. He added that young people such as apprentices and graduates were the way forward for the energy industry.

In addition to improving the electricity network within Scotland, Scottish Power is also seeking to improve the amount of transmission possible to England. It is thought that investments and improvements over the next decade could see a threefold increase in the amount of electricity distributable between the two countries.

“Scottish Power is committed to investing billions of pounds in our transmission network, and we are also committed to offering employment opportunities throughout our supply chain for a new generation of energy industry workers. It is no secret that our industry has an ageing workforce, and we need to encourage new blood into the fold,” said Mr Mitchell.
