13 Aug 2011

US Organic Supermarket Chain To Create Gloucestershire Jobs Whole Foods Market, an organic food supermarket from the United States, is set to open a new store in Cheltenham. The move to their first English outlet outside of London will create up to 150 full or part time jobs in Gloucestershire.

Whole Foods Market started out in 1980 and has hundreds of stores in the US. Up until now though, the firm has only ventured into the UK market with five stores in London – Camden, Clapham Junction, Kensington, Soho and Stoke Newington.

The Cheltenham branch of Whole Foods Market will open at the Gallagher Retail Park towards the end of next year.

Regional president of Whole Foods Market in the UK, Jeff Turnas, said: “It's our intention to bring the best quality foods to shoppers throughout the UK and this store, our seventh to open in the UK and our first English store outside of London, will help us achieve that. Our goal is to be the finest food shop in every community we serve.”

Once the Cheltenham store is open and the full and part time jobs are filled, the organic foods company will look to open further stores in Richmond Upon Thames and Fulham Broadway. A store is also due to open in Scotland in just a few months time when a site at Giffnock in Glasgow is completed.
