25 Jul 2011

3000 John Lewis Jobs To Be Created Next Year John Lewis, the department store is set to create up to 3,000 new full and part time jobs next year as it opens ten new stores. In the first round of recruitment, 300 retail jobs in the South East will be filled when a new outlet opens in Essex.

There will be vacancies available at both management level and further down the chain. An average of 300 new full or part time jobs will be created at each new store.

The new outlet format will be smaller than John Lewis’ flagship department store but bigger than its “At Home” range of stores.

Apart from the new Essex store at the beginning of next year, none of the other 9 locations have yet been revealed.

Andy Street, Managing Director at John Lewis explained why the expansion could go ahead and gave more detail about the full and part time jobs that will be created:

“There is a huge potential, and a clear demand from customers, for John Lewis to expand into more key locations in the UK. By bringing these growth opportunities into communities, we will be creating thousands of new jobs throughout the country.”

“Starting early next year with the recruitment of 300 staff for the new Exeter branch, similar numbers will be recruited at each of the 10 identified locations going forward resulting in around 3,000 jobs being created through the development of our new, flexible format.”
