Up To 2,000 Manchester Jobs As Ryanair Expand Routes As many as 2,000 Manchester jobs could be created over the next few years as Ryanair expands the number of routes they fly from the city’s airport.

The Irish airline already operates six routes from Manchester but will add a further 20 within the next twelve months or so. The new routes will operate to Spain, Belgium, Italy and other countries.

When all of the routes are live, Ryanair will ferry over two million passengers to 26 cities from Manchester Airport.

The new Manchester jobs on offer will include staff at the airport, cabin crew and pilots and 250 positions will be created before the end of the year.

The relationship between Ryanair and Manchester airport has not always been a smooth affair but the company’s colourful chief executive, Michael O’Leary sounded pleased with his company’s expansion at the UK’s fourth biggest airport.

“Ryanair is delighted to unveil Manchester as our 45th base with 26 routes. It is great news for Ryanair, for Manchester and terrific news for the industry and local economy,” said Mr O’Leary.

Mr O’Leary did, however, leave a barbed comment hanging in the air as he compared his company’s history with Manchester Airport to a marriage, saying, “There has been compromises on both sides. Being the poor airline we have had to compromise more.”
