Micro Focus, a global software firm with over 18,000 customers, is to increase its headcount in Northern Ireland by creating 72 new Belfast jobs. The company says that some of these will be suitable graduate IT jobs for students in the city.

The new positions will be filled over the next 3 years and will take the number of Micro Focus employees in Belfast to around 120. Worldwide, the IT company employs 1,500 staff at over 50 offices in 23 countries.

Director of Human Resources at Micro Focus in Belfast, Paul Rodgers, praised the knowledge base of potential employees in the city and Northern Ireland. He said that the expertise from graduates and other qualified individuals was one of the key reasons that Belfast had been chosen for this Micro Focus expansion.

“We have a great wealth of talent here, and both the University of Ulster and Queen's, as well as other colleges, are producing fantastic, highly qualified graduates who are more than fit for these jobs,” said Mr Rodgers.

There could be more graduate IT jobs on offer in Belfast and Northern Ireland in the next few years as super fast broadband internet and telecommunications infrastructures are improved. In addition, a proposed reduced rate of Corporation Tax for Northern Ireland could attract some of the biggest IT companies to cities like Belfast.
