The City of London Corporation is making over 100 paid internships available to students in Hackney and other nearby areas this summer.
Students in Hackney are up against the odds when it comes to looking for jobs since they are competing with over 12,000 other unemployed people in the region. These internships and work experience opportunities could really be the difference between a student landing a job or staying in unemployment.
The internships start in July and will run for a 13 week duration. They will seek to give the students a firm grounding in areas such as banking and HR.
Companies offering these Hackney internships with the support of The City of London Corporation include the Royal Bank of Canada, Lloyds and Bloomberg. Lots of other banks and legal companies are also on board for the initiative.
The scheme marks a significant increase in the number of placements made available by the City of London Corporation. This summer they place students in twice the number of internships than they have done in total for the last ten years.
The Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee at the City of London Corporation, Stuart Fraser, said it was great to see so many paid internships available for young students this year on the City of London Business Traineeship scheme.
“With a tough job market, it has never been more important for young people to gain real employment experience and we are delighted to be able to offer the young people of Hackney real prospects through these ground breaking placements,” said Mr Fraser.
