600 holiday jobs could be created in Wales if plans for a new holiday resort get the seal of approval. It’s certainly worth keeping track of the unfolding news on this proposed development if you will be looking for student jobs while studying in Wales.
The new resort would be created near to Holyhead on the Isle of Anglesey on 600 acres of land which is currently owned by Anglesey Aluminium.
Richard Sidi of Land and Lakes Ltd, the company behind the proposals, says they would like to construct a high quality destination in the region which would boost tourism in the area. The new destination would be a ‘flagship leisure resort’ but would also feature a comprehensive set of amenities such as sport facilities which could also be used by the local community.
In addition to the 600 jobs that will be created directly in the construction and running of the resort, it is also forecast that many more indirect jobs will come as a result of the increased trade at businesses in the area when Land and Lakes Ltd source 70% of their supplies locally.
Alex Aldridge, Anglesey Commissioner, spoke in favour of the holiday resort, saying it would be a fantastic boost for Anglesey and Holyhead in particular. Mr Aldridge said that the holiday resort would add a new level of variety to an area that is already a significant tourist destination.
“Over the last 18 months the Authority has been engaged in ongoing work with Anglesey Aluminium Ltd and the Welsh Government to secure jobs on land currently in Anglesey Aluminium Ltd's ownership. This could be a major step in the right direction towards achieving this aim as well as potentially securing a substantial number of jobs on the former smelting site, which would be a further major boost for Holyhead and the wider Anglesey economy,” said Mr Aldridge.
