Whitbread, the UK’s top hospitality company, could create 2,500 full or part time jobs this year as is ramps up its expansion across the United Kingdom.

The majority of the growth and new jobs will come as the firm pump money into the Premier Inn budget hotel wing of their business. The total number of hotel rooms in their portfolio will increase by 4,000 this year alone – and by around 20,000 over the next 5 years.

Whitbread also own the Beefeater and Costa Coffee brands and expect to grow both of those businesses too in the next few years. Costa will add in the region of 300 new outlets in 2011 and will double its presence around the globe in the next half decade.

The 2,500 full and part time jobs created this year will be in a variety of roles across the Group’s businesses.

Chief executive of Whitbread PLC, Andy Harrison, is confident that his company will exceed expectations even in these tougher economic times. One of their top priorities is to continue to offer good value for money while picking up market share from competitors. They are also keeping an eye on the purse strings to maximise profits going forward.

“We see a significant opportunity for Whitbread, building on our good returns on capital and the availability of quality sites. We are already growing faster and will add around 4,000 new Premier Inn UK rooms and around 300 Costa stores this year and we have set new five year milestones,” said Mr Harrison.
