There is some encouraging news on full and part time jobs in the automotive industry at the moment from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and BMW.
JLR has pencilled in a new £67 million facility in the West Midlands which could add more than 1,000 Wolverhampton jobs to the local economy.
Wolverhampton is, however, just one of three sites that JLR is considering, with the other potential UK possibility being South Wales. Another option for the car company is that they will build the new engine plant overseas in India. At the moment, though, experts and sources close to JLR think that the full and part time jobs will be created in the United Kingdom.
Gavin Williams, MP for South Staffordshire, said: “I will be trying to make sure the best possible deal is put forward in order to try and get Jaguar Land Rover to the i54 site,” said Mr Williamson. We want the best possible deal to attract what would be an absolutely fantastic and major investment in the area.”
As we told you last month, the new Evoque model from JLR will create 5,000 full or part time UK jobs. The 1,000 jobs which could come to Wolverhampton or South Wales are in addition to those vacancies.
Also in the news at the moment is BMW which has just begun work on a new distribution facility which could see 200 Northampton jobs created. The 10 acre site in the Pineham area of the city will stock parts for Rolls Royce and the Mini as well as BMW cars themselves. The 200 full or part time jobs in Northampton could be filled early next year as the warehouse is due to be completed at the end of next January.
