10,000 coventry jobs could take off at the airport
24-Apr-2011

10,000 Coventry Jobs Could Take Off At The Airport As many as 10,000 Coventry jobs could be created at the city’s airport according to its chairman Sir Peter Rigby.

Sir Peter said that the whole of the West Midlands would stand to benefit from a £250 million investment which would see a business park built at the airport facility in the Baginton area of Coventry. Plans also include a new hotel and restaurant along with improvements to Coventry Airport’s existing cargo and passenger terminal infrastructure.

Directly and indirectly, the whole redevelopment could generate up to 10,000 full and part time jobs in Coventry in the next 4 years says Sir Peter.

Coventry Airport closed in 2009 for financial reasons but it was purchased last year by The Patriot Aviation Group which is owned by Sir Peter. If the redevelopment goes ahead then scheduled passenger flights could once again start to service Coventry Airport. Sir Peter said that the management team at the airport seeks to focus on the local community and bringing jobs to the region.

Quoted on the airport website, Sir Peter Rigby outlined his reasons for pressing ahead with the plans for redevelopment: “Our plans to improve the airport’s infrastructure and facilities will benefit the entire West Midlands because we want Coventry Airport to act as an economic catalyst for job creation and income generation.”

“As soon as is practicable, we aim to re-establish passenger airlines which will reduce travel time for business and leisure travellers and, crucially at this time, our proposals will lead to the creation of up to 10,000 jobs directly and indirectly,” added Sir Peter.
