Huawei, a global telecoms company with its UK headquarters in Hampshire, is set to create up to 500 full and part time jobs in the United Kingdom before the end of 2014.

In addition to the new vacancies the Chinese operation will offer at their own company, there could also be an estimated one to one and a half thousand extra indirect jobs opened up for subcontracting firms and individuals.

Huawei began its UK operations in London 10 years ago but moved its headquarters to Basingstoke in 2003. It currently employs around 500 people in the UK but the recent announcement on new full or part time jobs would swell their ranks by more than twofold.

Also encouraging was the news that Huawei is to inititate a graduate recruitment scheme at some point in the near future.

The Chief Executive of Huawei in the UK, Victor Zhang, gave his reasons for increasing headcount at Basingstoke: “An increase in employees in our UK office will help us to provide more customised and innovative products and solutions for British telecom carriers, enterprise customers and consumers.”

For that reason, Zhang said that Huawei were committed to bringing more full and part time job opportunties to the United Kingdom as the company expands in Europe.
