Ernst & Young, the international assurance, tax and advisory services giant, has announced that it will have 700 summer internships on offer this year. Anyone interested internships should seriously consider these roles as there won’t be many better opportunities for work experience out there.
The financial company, which employs over 140 thousand people worldwide, says it wants to convert more than half of the internships and work placements on offer into full time jobs by 2013.
The announcement of these latest EY Fast Tracks opportunities sees Ernst & Young, one of the Big Four accountancy and advisory firms, lay claim to having the largest internship and work experience programme in the private sector.
Ernst & Young’s head of graduate recruitment, Stephen Isherwood, said that over the past year his company had observed an ‘unprecedented level of demand’ for their internship and work experience placements. This year, the number of graduate applications for the internships has already risen by over 135% leading to the company doubling the number of places up fro grabs.
In addition, Ernst & Young have also broadened the range of programmes on offer so that college students, undergraduates, graduates and postgraduates are all eligible to take part in their summer internships, insight days and global placement opportunities.
Speaking of how these opportunities would benefit both the company and the students, Isherwood said: “Work experience and internships provide employers with an opportunity to identify new talent. It provides an unrivalled opportunity to see how a potential candidate would operate in the work place, removed from the pressure of an interview situation.”
“Last year, 90% of our interns received graduate job offers. We’re hoping that our enhanced Fast Tracks scheme will identify at least half of next year’s graduate intake,” concluded Mr Isherwood.
