In November last year, we brought you the news that 7,500 Asda jobs would be created in 2011.
In that article we mentioned that some of the full and part time jobs that would be on offer would come as a result of Asda’s conversion of the Netto stores which it was acquiring. Now, the supermarket retailer is about to start the recruitment process of staff for those former Netto outlets.
Over 1,000 full or part time jobs could be created at the 147 stores which Asda bought from Netto in a £778 million deal. The company has said that it is keen to consider applications from staff who were made redundant due to the Netto acquisitions.
Speaking of how former Netto workers might make the transition to working in Asda jobs, Vikki Gartside, Head of Resourcing at Asda, said: “Netto is very entrepreneurial - because of the leanness of their operation they have to be on their toes. There is a lot more structure and process to Asda … I think that is a more positive thing for the colleagues coming over.”
Asda only recently received the full go-ahead for the takeover of the Netto stores after the Office of Fair Trading said that it wasn’t necessary that the deal should be referred to the Competition Commission.
Some sources have claimed that as many as 1,500 full and part time opportunities could open up – with over 400 job vacancies in Yorkshire alone. The completely re-branded stores could be open in just a few months.
