Up to 1,700 full or part time Scotland jobs could be created in the coming years by Doosan Power Systems, a Korean green technology and services company.
The company already have a base at Renfrew in Scotland but have plans for a new research and development facility at the site. Around 200 full or part jobs would be created initially and a further 500 vacancies could come if Doosan Power Systems goes ahead with a planned assembly and manufacturing plant in Scotland.
Once everything is up and running, Doosan forecasts that the supply chain to the manufacturing facility could add a further 1,000 full or part time Scotland jobs to the economy.
First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, said of that Doosan Power Systems was a leader in energy technology and that he was delighted the company have chosen to base their new facility in Renfrew, Scotland. He said that it would help the country to develop its next generation of offshore wind turbines.
“I’m also excited by the prospect of Doosan establishing a manufacturing facility in Scotland – this announcement is an important step towards that and towards many hundreds more jobs that will be created beyond the 200 posts announced today,” concluded Mr Salmond.
The chief executive of Doosan Power Systems, Jean-Michel Aubertin, agreed with the First Minister: “This is great news for Scotland’s economy in terms of jobs and inward investment. Doosan’s current wind power portfolio and position with the industry will continue to grow over the coming years.”
