A recent survey has found that over three-quarters of students and graduates would like to work for an internet company.

Some 78 per cent of respondents in the Milkround survey said they were attracted to working for a web-based company.

Those questioned gave several reasons for wanting to work in this area. Many welcomed the creative approach such opportunities allowed, while others were keen to be part of a fast-paced, cutting-edge business sector which constantly presented new challenges.

Mike Barnard, spokesperson for Milkround, said: "It’s no surprise that working for an internet-based company is becoming increasingly popular, especially given the huge growth of social networking websites such as Facebook and MySpace."

However, job security in this sector was an issue that worried a high proportion of those questioned. Some 41 per cent felt working for an internet companies offers poorer job security than employment with other companies.

Mr Barnard highlighted these concerns. He continued: "Businesses have got a long way to go before they shed the perception that the internet puts a barrier between the customer and good customer service."

A recent survey indicated that internet search engine Google was the most popular company to work for. MBA students voted it top of a list of companies that included both web and "traditional", office-based employers.
