950 Full Or Part Time Jobs In Scotland With Amazon

30 Jan 2011

950 Full Or Part Time Jobs In Scotland With Amazon Amazon, the famous internet retailer which sells thousands of products, could create as many as 950 full or part time jobs in Scotland with the majority of the positions in Fife.

Amazon’s new distribution centre at Dunfermline, Fife in Scotland will host most of the new full and part time jobs as a smaller facility in the area is phased out. Employees will transfer from the closing site to take up new jobs at the Dunfermline base.

At very busy periods such as the run-up to Christmas, a further 1,500 full or part time jobs in Scotland could be created on a temporary basis to help deal with the surge in demand.

Vice president of Amazon’s European operations, Allan Lyall, said that Amazon was delighted to be building the new facility at Dunfermline in Scotland. “It is a great location and it has been Amazon's priority to secure a new site as close to the current Glenrothes fulfilment centre as possible in order to preserve and transfer the entire skilled workforce with all its experience and Amazon knowledge,” said Lyall before adding that the site would open towards the end of 2011.

First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, also welcomed the new Scotland jobs from Amazon:

“The company's announcement of this expansion in Scotland is a reflection on its current success of the skills and commitment of its existing workforce. This shows how public and private sectors can work together. Amazon's plan to create a purpose-built fulfilment centre in Dunfermline will create over 750 jobs and deliver a very significant boost to the local economy,” said Salmond.
