If you are looking for graduate IT jobs in London at the moment, then you will be interested to hear that Microsoft are to create 4,000 IT jobs in the UK in 2011.
The majority of the new IT jobs will be created through an extension of the current Microsoft apprenticeship scheme which takes jobless young people in the UK and trains them up to be technical support workers.
The current apprenticeship scheme sources unemployed youths from Job Centre Plus and works with the backing of the National Apprenticeship Service. Once on the scheme, the apprentices are provided with professional training so that they can achieve certification in the IT industry.
In a statement about the new IT jobs, Gordon Frazer, managing director of Microsoft in the UK, said: “In 2011, Microsoft expects its Britain Works programme to generate 4,000 new jobs, in addition to the 9,000 new jobs created since launch in 2009. Microsoft’s Britain Works does two things. Firstly, it creates new jobs in the form of highly skilled apprenticeships and opportunities for entrepreneurs to start new businesses. Secondly it provides IT training to give people the right skills for existing vacancies.”
Mr Frazer added that, over and above the technical support apprenticeships, there would also be IT opportunities for apprentices in technical sales and software development from Spring this year.
