11 Jan 2011

20,000 Full & Part Time Jobs At Sainbury’s Sainsbury’s, the UK’s third largest supermarket retailer, says it will create 20,000 full and part time jobs before the end of 2014.

Up to 6,500 full and part time Sainsbury’s jobs could be created this year alone – following in the footsteps of the 13,000 positions the supermarket has created in the last two years. The new full and part time positions over the next three years will be based at supermarkets and smaller convenience outlets thoughout the United Kingdom. The majority of the new Sainbury’s jobs will be created in Scotland and the north of England as the supermarket continues its expansion in those areas.

The current portfolio of Sanibury’s consists of over 500 supermarkets and more than 300 convenience stores, which already employ 150 thousand people in full and part time roles.

Chief Executive Officer of Sainsbury’s, Justin King, said: “These new jobs will provide a huge boost to communities across the UK and as they are a mixture of full and part time positions there will be an opportunity suitable for everyone.”

“We recognise the importance of doing more than simply creating jobs, and this is why we are committed to providing our colleagues with an unrivalled range of training and development opportunities such as our award winning apprenticeship programme and industry leading scheme for graduates.”
