New Waitrose Could Create 180 New Berkshire Jobs

21 Dec 2010

New Waitrose Could Create 180 New Berkshire Jobs Waitrose, the supermarket retailer, could create up to 180 new full or part time Berkshire jobs if they get the go ahead for a new store in Bracknell.

Waitrose hasn’t yet secured planning permission for the new development, but it is expected that it would be built near the Millenium Way and Bond Way areas of Bracknell, Berkshire. If Bracknell Forest Council gives planning permission for the new Waitrose outlet then construction could begin as early as April 2011.

Paul Bettison, of the Council, said that if the new outlet gets approval, the first Waitrose in the town for 25 years would be a catalyst for more development in Bracknell town centre in the future. Bettison added it would bring with it ‘a state-of-the-art building’ and would provide new full or part time Berkshire jobs for local people.

The cost of 36,000 sq. ft. development is forecast to run into the millions but customers could be passing through its check-outs at the beginning of 2012.

Director of development at Waitrose, Nigel Keen, commented on the new store proposal: "Bracknell has been home to our Head Office for nearly 40 years and we are delighted to now be in a position to be making such a major investment in the town, which can deliver secure employment to even more local people."
