Deloitte Launches Bright Start Scheme For College Leavers

15 Dec 2010

Deloitte Launches Bright Start Scheme For College Leavers Deloitte, the professional services and business advisory company, is to offer finance jobs to 100 school and college leavers next year in a scheme launched under the title of ‘Bright Start.’ They will, however, still have over a thousand finance jobs for graduates on offer for 2011 too.

A managing partner at Deloitte, John Kerr, said his company was launching Bright Start for 100 college students who achieve at least three ‘B’ grades at A Level. The college leavers will start in the finance jobs with Deloitte next September and can study for a professional accountancy qualification. The salary on offer is also said to be ‘competitive’ from the start.

Deloitte have dabbled with similar schemes at regional offices already, but the latest announcement suggests that hiring talent straight from school and colleges is becoming more ingrained in the company’s future recruitment strategy. Deloitte says that it hopes to increase the scope of the Bright Start scheme in future years.

With the latest debate on fees meaning that some more-than-capable students may not want to get into debt at university before looking for a graduate finance job. By looking to recruit at A level entry, Deloitte could pick up on some talent at an earlier age.

Mr Kerr said: “The prospect of increasing tuition fees may make some very bright people think twice about going on to university. We want to offer an alternative career path to bright students for whom university may not be the desired choice or an available option. We will provide the opportunity to embark on a career with exceptional prospects and to gain a full professional business qualification.”

“Talent is the lifeblood of a business like ours and it is crucial that we do all we can to ensure that talented young people with the ability to succeed can find their way into Deloitte, whatever their background,” added Mr Kerr.

As well as the Bright Start scheme, Deloitte will continue to recruit from universities next year and will have over 1,100 graduate finance jobs up for grabs in 2011.
