PwC has received a flood of applications for its 2011 round of London graduate finance jobs. The finance and professional services company has 1,600 places on offer for next year and 800 of them are internships and graduate finance jobs in London.

Since announcing next year’s recruitment scheme back in October, PwC has already received 8,000 applications for their 2011 graduate intake programme. That is over double the number of job applications it received for its graduate jobs last year. Almost half of the students surveyed by the company at a recent on-campus event said that they wanted to find a graduate job in London after graduation.

PwC has over 160,000 employees around the world and 1 in 10 of those works in finance, tax and professional jobs in the UK. The majority of the UK employees are based in London.

The 800 PwC finance positions available in London next year are made up of 600 graduate and A level jobs and 200 internships and work placements. Nationwide, PwC have 1,200 graduate and A level positions and 400 internships on offer for 2011.

Head of student recruitment at PwC, Richard Irwin, said: “These levels of interest are a promising start to our new recruitment programme, and in part reflect early signs of confidence in the job market returning amongst students. Record attendance at our campus events suggests that there’s a much stronger determination amongst students to get a job or experience as early as possible.”
