Tesco Set To Produce 2,000 Full & Part Time Jobs In Scotland

30 Aug 2010

Tesco Set To Produce 2,000 Full & Part Time Jobs In Scotland Tesco, the UK supermarket retailing giant, is planning to expand its Scottish shop base and could possibly create 2,000 new full and part time jobs in Scotland this year. Some of the new job vacancies will come as early as the start of September when a new Tesco supermarket at St Enoch Centre will create around 100 full and part time vacancies in Glasgow.

Tesco is already a major employer in Scotland with over 25,000 people at around 150 locations in the country. As well as creating more full and part time jobs with the future opening of new stores, Tesco also plans to update some of its existing supermarkets in the region.

Based on market share of the grocery sector, Tesco actually does better north of the border with 32 per cent than it does in the United Kingdom as a whole.

Tesco is also keen to voice support for purchasing more local food in Scotland to supplement the 1,200 Scottish producers who already supply them. They now sell around £5 million worth of Scottish goods each week but would like to increase that figure to boost the Scottish economy.

Working part time or on a temporary basis in one of the big supermarkets is a great way to earn money and get some work experience along the way. We list exactly those types of jobs whenever we see them on pages dedicated to some of the bigger Scottish cities. For example you’ll find pages for both student jobs in Glasgow and general jobs in Edinburgh on the Employment4students website.
