The next decade will see the creation of 270,000 new graduate jobs in London according to the London Development Agency (LDA).
Many of the new London graduate jobs are expected to come as a result of an expanding business service industry and an increase in the number of managerial, professional and technical graduate roles on offer. On the down side for the broader job market there may be a slow down in the number of admin staff required in London over the same period.
Destinations 2020, the report from the LDA, forecasts that the UK’s capital will be the main driving force behind the economic recovery over the next ten years. In total it is predicted that 540,000 new positions will be created by 2020 and that over 50 per cent of them will be London graduate jobs which will require education to degree level.
If the LDA figures prove to be accurate then London jobs will approach the previous job market peaks of 2008 within 3 years. The UK as a whole is only expected to match that achievement by 2015.
Director of Employment and Skills at the LDA, Stephen Evans, said that employers would increasingly be looking for people with strong employability skills such as being able to work as part of a team and possessing good customer service knowledge. Evans said: "We want to ensure that all Londoners have every chance to share in the city’s success. So we will continue to invest to equip Londoners with the skills they need to gain these new jobs. Employers and public agencies need to work together to ensure that we build a fairer and more prosperous London."
