Part Time Job And Holiday Job News

Almost a quarter of UK companies surveyed by Career Builder said that they are expecting to offer college leavers a full or part time job in the next year.

The opinions and expectations of 106 varied British companies were canvassed at the end of April and the beginning of May 2010 for the study - and the results are quite encouraging.

Of the businesses planning to offer full or part time jobs to college leavers, two-thirds expected wages to be the same as last year but 6 per cent thought that they would be willing to pay out more for the right candidate.

Breaking down those wage figures into real figures we find that over a quarter of the companies will willing to pay between £20,000 and £30,000 and 6 per cent even more than that. Half of the businesses did however expect to remunerate less than £20,000 for candidates who filled their full or part time vacancies.

The study also highlighted areas and skills that you might like to focus on if you are serious about getting a good job after leaving college. Over a third of the employers surveyed said that they thought that communication skills were lacking in applicants. 3 in 10 thought that there was a deficit in the area of critical thinking skills and 1 in 5 considered there to be an overall weakness in general business skills. 7 per cent picked out maths and IT skills as areas that could also be improved upon.

So brush up on your communication skills and find some work experience to sharpen your business skills and you will put yourself in a great position to find a handsomely paid full or part time job when you leave college.
