After a successful start to their graduate job programme in hospitality management this year, Guoman and Thistle Hotels have decided to continue the scheme in future years.
People & development director at the hotel group, Christian Armstrong, said that the strength and quality of the people that had filled their graduate jobs so far was evidence that such graduate schemes were necessary. Without such graduate job schemes in hospitality, he said, they would not be able to ‘offer these bright, young managers of the future a real career opportunity.’
Armstrong, who is responsible for over 2200 employees across 31 sites in the UK added that: “From the interest and success around our first graduate programme this year, we have committed to opening up our programme to a number of selected graduates on an annual basis.”
After enduring a three month selection process, the 12 new recruits this year will now go on to a two year graduate programme. The first year will give the graduates a broad grounding in hospitality essentials such as housekeeping, food & drinks knowledge, front office, human resources and finance functions. In the second year of the programme the graduates will narrow down their focus to one discipline from sales, finance, revenue or operations management.
