Dobbies, the garden centre retailer, is planning to open a new development which would add 120 new full and part time jobs in Liverpool.

Dobbies is one of the UK’s top garden centre brand names and has been in business since 1865. They have 25 stores across Scotland and England selling plants and gardening equipment.

The company now want to open Garden World, an environmentally friendly garden centre in the Speke area of Liverpool near to John Lennon Airport. Garden World would use sustainably-sourced timber and other eco-friendly techniques such as energy efficient lights and the reuse of rainwater.

The new development would cost an estimated £8 million and open up 120 full and part time job vacancies in Liverpool – earmarked for the people of Garston and Speke itself. The new recruits would receive training and around 60 of the new staff will become well-versed in horticulture.

Director of property at Dobbies, Stuart Wright, said: “Our Speke Garden World will bring over 120 jobs to Liverpool and will encourage an environmentally-friendly approach to 21st century living where all the family can enjoy planting and growing. We want to help boost the local economy in a sustainable way by providing jobs for local people.”
