Local online newspaper Peterborough Today has reported that there will be hundreds of new full and part time Peterborough jobs in the coming months.
JobCentre Plus in the Broadway area of Peterborough said that Amazon, the huge internet retailer, would be creating 1,400 new jobs in Peterborough from the beginning of June to assist with their busy period running into Christmas.
The new temporary and part time Peterborough jobs at Amazon will be based at their Kingston Park site and will be packaging roles. A spokesperson for Amazon told the paper that this site, next to the Fletton Parkway, played a very important role in getting millions of their products delivered in the Christmas period last year. The spokesperson said: “We require the additional capacity that this site offers us again for Christmas 2010 and will begin to ramp up operations from June so that we can work at full pace in time for the busy festive period.”
In further good news for Peterborough jobs, RSA – the insurance company – has secured a contract with Tesco for pet insurance which will require them to recruit 230 more staff for its Peterborough Business Park offices. These new jobs in Peterborough at RSA include positions for insurance claims handlers, team leaders and customer managers.
Stewart Jackson, an MP in the city said of the new Peterborough jobs: “We have a lot of qualified and skilled people who are out of work. That is something that must be addressed and these job opportunities can only be a good thing.”
And Liz Johnson, from JobcentrePlus told Peterborough today that, “It is nice to see businesses coming to the city. Things are starting to pick up and I hope people are buoyed by more jobs.”
