santander launches school leaver programme
22-Apr-2010

Santander Launches School Leaver Programme Santander, one the world’s biggest banks, has now launched a programme for school leavers and A-level students who are interested in following a financial career path.

As we reported in February, Santander recently expanded its graduate job scheme and now they are aiming to start the selection process even earlier by recruiting the best 16 to 18 year olds for a career in finance.

To qualify for this structured 5-year programme you must have finished, or be due to finish, school by September of this year. Santander are looking for students with predicted or achieved grades of C or above in English and Maths (one of them must be A). Also, if you are an A-level student, then they require 2 A-levels at grade C or above – or equivalents thereof.

The programmes are initially based at one of Santander’s regional offices in Glasgow, Belfast or Bradford - although they do stipulate that you should be flexible on work location. During the 5 year programme you will also be given support in qualifying for Charter Bank Status which will give you the equivalent of a degree.

Director of Human Resources at Santander, Simon Lloyd, said, “At Santander our most valuable asset is our people and we have a wide range of support programmes available to staff which provide for truly rewarding careers. The School Leaver Programme is an exciting opportunity for us to develop and retain talent and we see our investment in young talent as being an important step on the road to becoming the best commercial bank in the UK.”

If you are interested in the work experience and career opportunities presented by the Santander School Leaver Programme then you can find further details here. And, if you are a student at school or college and are looking for work then you might also be interested in the hundreds of part time jobs, holiday jobs, gap year opportunities and work experience positions that we have in our listings.
