Gap Year Job News

The new Report on Jobs published this week by KPMG and the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has shown further increases in the number of permanent and temporary job appointments in March.

The number of people appointed by recruitment companies in the UK rose again in March and growth was at its highest level for 12 years. The number of permanent job vacancies on offer also increased in March but at a slower pace than the previous two months.

The number of people placed into short term and temporary positions increased at its strongest pace for almost three years. Also, pay levels for people working in temporary jobs rose at the fastest rate since the middle of 2008.

Speaking about the rise in the number of temporary jobs, the REC's Chief Executive, Kevin Green, said: “A rise in both temporary and contract work at the sharpest rate for nearly three years shows how they continue to provide vital flexibility for UK businesses as well as a valuable route back into work for job-seekers. While high-end sectors such as IT and engineering continue to show strong growth, demand is also increasing for secretarial and back-office support roles.”

Partner and Head of Business Services at KPMG, Bernard Brown, said that these latest permanent and temporary jobs figures showed that the UK jobs market was going from strength to strength and that we are coming out of the recession at a pace.
