Virgin Atlantic will create 200 new full or part time jobs in Swansea over the next couple of years at a new Alexandra House contact call centre.
The huge airline company, part of Sir Richard Branson’s empire, are looking for new staff with customer service and sales skills to fill the Swansea jobs. The successful candidates will help deal with calls from both the UK and America for the company’s core business along with Virgin Atlantic’s frequent flyer club.
Virgin Atlantic, who now fly to over 30 destinations around the world, are hoping to recruit all staff for the 200 new jobs in Swansea via their website, job fairs and via colleges and universities in the region.
It is also thought that some current Virgin Atlantic staff working in temporary and part time positions at their Crawley offices will fill some of the new Swansea jobs.
Recruitment for the new Swansea jobs will start later in March with a view to having the Alexandra House facility fully up and running by September 2010.
Virgin Atlantic chief commercial and financial officer, Julie Southern, said: “Virgin Atlantic is really pleased to be opening a new customer service centre based in Swansea. We know that Swansea has many experienced customer service staff and we look forward to being able to use their valuable experience to support Virgin Atlantic’s customers. We are lucky to have dedicated and passionate staff and are sure those in Swansea will be no exception.”
Swansea council leader Chris Holley also welcomed the new jobs in Swansea saying that now local people could look forward to hundreds of new job opportunities.
Ieuan Wyn Jones, Deputy First Minister and Minister for the Economy and Transport said that the Welsh Assembly Government had worked in close coordination with Virgin Atlantic over the six months and was delighted that the customer service centre would bring a significant number of new Swansea jobs.
