23 Feb 2010

Asda To Create 6,000 New Full & Part Time Jobs in 2010 Last week, Asda, the UK supermarket chain, announced that it would create 6,000 new full or part time jobs around the country as part of its continuing expansion plans.

Also, all of the retailer’s staff who have worked for the company for 6 months or more will receive a bonus payment of up to £437.50 at the end of this week. The total bonus payment for 2009 is £26 million, a record for Asda, and an increase of almost 20% on the 2008 payout.

The new full and part time jobs continue the supermarket’s strong record of job creation in the past few years. Since 2007 they have added 20,000 new full and part time positions across their 371 supermarkets and 21 depots. In addition to strong job creation, Asda have also done well with customer numbers. In 2009, one million more shoppers came through their check-outs than did in 2008.

The 6,000 new full and part time jobs will be created as Asda opens 10 further stores and expand 10 more of its existing supermarkets.

Asda is also on a drive to reduce supermarket prices for shoppers by boosting their purchasing power. Asda president and chief executive Andy Bond said: "We're putting the right structure in place to generate significant savings to customers over the years ahead, powered by our unique relationship with Wal-Mart."
