jobcentre plus admits reliable and hard working staff are desirable

JobCentre Plus Admits Reliable And Hard Working Staff Are Desirable Are you a hard working, reliable person who is currently looking for a casual or part time job? Well, you might have to read between the lines of job adverts if recent advice from a Norfolk JobCentre Plus is taken at face value.

Nicole Mamo, manager of Devonwood Recruitment, was recently told by the Thetford office of JobCentre Plus that she should not advertise specifically for reliable and hard working staff as that could be construed as offensive to those of a less than reliable or possibly work shy disposition.

Ms Mamo could not believe what she was hearing and even started to laugh about the instructions regarding her company’s recruitment opportunity for a cleaning position at West Suffolk Hospital. She has branded the advice she received from the Thetford JobCentre Plus as crazy.

Ms Mamo, displaying reasonable restraint, said: "I'm trying to run a respected agency and can't uphold a good reputation with unreliable people."

It would seem that most commentators agree with Ms Mamo that reliable workers are generally more reliable when it comes to the workplace and that hard working people can be relied upon to work harder than less hard-working people. As a general rule of thumb.

Indeed, the Equality and Human Rights Commission has stated the Ms Mamo’s original job advert was in no way a breach of any discrimination law.

The Department of Work and Pensions have since tried to diffuse the situation and a spokesperson has agreed that reliability is indeed a quality in the interests of employers – and is also rather valued by JobCentre Plus themselves. They admit that they do in fact welcome adverts from employers who are looking to recruit reliable people.

If you are a hard working, reliable individual looking for a part time job where those qualities might be in demand then see what opportunities E4S currently have available in our part time jobs section.
