Mothercare, the baby and parent-to-be product specialist, will be creating 400 new full or part time jobs before the end of 2011 as they expand their empire with a further 33 parenting centres around the nation. Mothercare’s parenting centres are the largest stores that the company retails from. They bring in around 65 per cent of the profit that Mothercare makes in the UK and comprise 40 per cent of the company’s total store footage.
Eight of the new parenting centres will provide full and part time jobs for people before Christmas this year. Those new stores will be located in Colliers Wood, King's Lynn, Kirkcaldy, Lewisham, Newton Abbey, Poole, Stoke and Yeovil. A further 25 new parenting centres next year will create further full and part time jobs in the UK.
Mothercare’s chief executive, Ben Gordon, said that the company had already opened 85 new stores in 2009 and was happy with recent results. He said: "This has been another strong half for the Mothercare group. International has delivered a record first half with retail sales up 29.6% and store openings ahead of plan."
Mothercare is a truly global company. It currently has just short of 400 stores in the UK – and also has almost 700 more in over 50 countries around the world. In October, they announced that they were also looking to increase their exposure in China and India.
